How to integrate intention and improvisation
I don't know I'm asking
More strippers. Pole dancer bars to suggest prison bars for the Don’t hate us for our freedom painting. Will I actually paint this? Time will tell. Don’t hate me for my lack of follow through.
As these narratives come to mind, other aesthetic impulses call from elsewhere. Or maybe from the same place, but coming through the body. I go to the studio with the intention to start an intended painting, and instead I detour into some nonsensical impulse to, say, glue my old backpacking T-shirt to a wood panel and cover it with glass bead clear acrylic medium.
If I could allow these two streams to merge I think I could flow with more ease, not having to dam up one to release the other. I am not sure what it is that separates the two impulses—call them figurative storytelling and psychic habitat creation. A right brain/left brain barrier? A control/surrender all or nothing splitting mechanism? I am determined to find a way.
I am thinking of the image I posted a couple days ago of the guy stuck in the river, not sure which gargantua to follow. How do I follow both gargantuans?
Here’s the backpacking shirt thing.
